Emergency Preparedness Planning for your Business

You don't always have much time to prepare for natural or man-made disasters.  Recovery from a disaster can be even more challenging.  Creating an emergency preparedness plan for your business can help you lay out steps you should take if your business becomes interrupted by a severe storm, high winds, fire, or other disaster.

The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety provides free resources for business owners to learn how to prepare for the unknown.  Use the following resources to help you prepare for unexpected interruptions in your business operations:

Severe Weather Emergency Preparedness Plan (EZ-PREP): A stand-alone guide that can be used by any small business to build a plan for responding to operational disruptions as a result of severe weather events.

Business Continuity Program (OFB-EZ): For small businesses that may not have the time or resources to create an extensive plan to recover from business interruptions.  Follow the same disaster planning and recovery processes used by larger companies, but without large corporate budgets.

Stop by 9 Court Street for hard copies of the above documents, check out some sample EZ-PREP and OFB-EZ plans, and to discuss your emergency preparedness plans in person.
