Special Pickup Instructions

Example: Stoves
Gym Equipment

We do not pickup mattresses and box springs. 

The following is the rate for Special Pickups:

Building materials, shingles, sheet rock. (These materials may be brought to the Transfer Station for a $10.00 per tonnage fee. They are not picked up curbside.)

Refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are picked up curbside after obtaining a $35.00 special pick-up sticker at the DPW office. All other items such as furniture and other appliances have a $25.00 fee.

Special pickup stickers must be purchased in advance for each item.  Stickers may be purchased at the DPW at 111 Mt. Hope Avenue during normal hours of operation.  You will receive a date for the pickup at the time of purchase.


Vehicles must have a securely fastened cover over the load or they will not be allowed in the Transfer Station.  This is required by State law.

The following will NOT be accepted at the Transfer Station:

  • Asphalt
  • Bricks
  • Automobile parts
  • Propane Tanks
  • Cement 
  • Oil base paint
  • Dirt 
  • *Building materials
  • *SHINGLES (Tar Roof Shingles)

*these materials may be discarded at the Transfer Station.

Water-based paint: 

Remove the lid and let the paint inside the can dry up completely (cat litter).  Only after it is completely dry can water-based paint be discarded with regular rubbish.

Oil-based paint is considered hazardous waste.  To dispose oil-based paint, call D.E.M.  942-1430 ext. 241

Used motor oil should be put into the IGLOO at the Transfer Station. LIMIT (5) quarts per month.

Items Containing Freon:

Items containing Freon such as REFRIGERATORS, AIR CONDITIONERS, FREEZERS & DEHUMIDIFIERS can be brought to the Transfer Station for a flat rate of $15.00


Washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, small water tanks microwave ovens, bikes, (no rubber tires) gas grills, automobile rims, old metal bed springs, metal sheds, metal sinks.

Residents may bring items to the Transfer Station or a sticker must be purchased for a fee of $10.00 for a pickup. 


Residents can bring furniture to the Transfer Station themselves and place it in a special furniture bin, or a sticker may be purchased for pickup for a $10.00 fee.


Wood and building material is accepted at the Transfer Station for a fee of $10.00 every 200 pounds. Wood fences, wood sheds, wood decks are NOT picked up by the D.P.W.  Residents can bring these items to the Transfer Station themselves.  Wood is deposited in a separate bin.


Tires are not picked up by the D.P.W.   Residents can deposit tires in a special bin at the Transfer Station. TIRES CANNOT HAVE RIMS ON THEM. 

MATTRESSES and BOX SPRINGS and RUGS are to be deposited in special bins at the Transfer Station.
